Our historic district proposal will include three sites of the 1887 Thibodaux Massacre in the Seventh Ward neighborhood of Thibodaux, Louisiana. We are interested in any residents who have stories related to the 1887 Massacre.
Historic district recognition means that the neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This designation and review process would be determined by the Louisiana Board of Tourism.
Being on the National Register would honor the rich heritage and history of African American citizens in the Seventh Ward. It would also increase the property value of homes in the Seventh Ward. If you have any concerns or questions about the National Register, or what it may mean to your property, here is their contact information.
